Friends of the Belen Public Library Donates to VCLC
The Friends of the Belen Public Library recently made a donation to the Valencia County Literacy Council. Their goal is to advance literacy in our local area so they donated $200 to three organizations and we were one of those.
VCLC is very grateful for the heartfelt donation from the Friends of the Belen Public Library and the partnership that we’ve had with both them and the Library.
Pictured is Mary Swenson, president of the Friends of the Belen Public Library presenting a check to me, Dores Jay Pang, Executive Director of VCLC. We are surrounded by Friends board members, VCLC board members and staff members, and Library staff members.

VCLC Office Moves to El Cerro Community Center
The Valencia County Literacy Council offices have moved from the UNM Valencia campus to the El Cerro Community Center!
We are all settled in and it took a lot of help getting here. Pictured below are some of our students helping us get things loaded for the move.
We’d like to thank the Valencia County Board of County Commissioners for the use of the the El Cerro Community Center and many thanks to Public Works Director Lina Benavidez who has helped us so much.

The Importance of VCLC’s Services
Recently, Berta Garcia, spoke to the Valencia County Literacy Council Board regarding how much learning English helped her navigate the healthcare system for her child with special needs.
Berta not only was a recipient of VCLC’s services, she is an accountant in Mexico and helps tutor students in financial literacy.
